In 2021, our NYPD Precinct had the most traffic-related injuries and deaths in all of Manhattan. Street safety is a critical issue across our entire city and it’s especially prevalent in our District. We must work to create streets that are safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. To support safer streets, it’s also imperative that we invest in our public transit system.
In her time in office, Julie has fought for improvements to make our streets safer and more livable:
- Conducting multiple walkthroughs of dangerous intersections in the District with the Transportation Commissioner to advocate for traffic-calming and -controlling methods
- Introduced legislation to regulate 15 minute delivery apps that endanger pedestrians with unrealistic promises
- Working with Community Board 8 to advocate for a more robust crosstown bike lane network
- Advocate for increased enforcement and regulation of e-bikes
- Increasing fines for idling of trucks blocking and polluting our streets
- Pushing the Department of Transportation to install more bus shelters throughout our district to support our bus system
- Sponsoring legislation to crack down on the sale and use of fraudulent paper license plates
- Working with developers to mitigate construction noise at multiple construction sites
- Installing artwork by P.S. 183 students to beautify the ConEd construction project on 62nd and York.
- Funding transportation safety upgrades along the M79 SBS Crosstown bus lane.
Julie will continue to prioritize safer streets and push for the installation of traffic-calming and -controlling measures at intersections throughout the District.
