Sanitation is rightfully a top concern of constituents, and Julie has made it a top priority since taking office. Sanitation concerns have grown since the City’s sanitation budget was cut before Julie took office in January 2020, a budget cut she strongly opposed.
In her time in office, Julie has already delivered significant sanitation victories:
Providing funding for litter basket pickups to the highest level they have ever been in Manhattan Community Board 8, with pickups up to 4x a day.
Creating a new composting site at Asphalt Green to meet the high community demand for composting.
Installing midblock trash cans on East 86th Street, after the community had attempted to do so for 10 years in order to curb trash accumulation in this highly trafficked commercial corridor.Funding rat remediation initiatives for tree pits across the neighborhood through NYC’s Cleanup Initiative with robust initial success.
Securing a litter basket next to NYCHA’s Lexington House after years of pushing from the community.
Replacing 44 litter baskets across Midtown East/Sutton Place with new top-of-the-line rodent resistant baskets
Julie will continue her advocacy for the containerization of waste, the expansion of composting, and high rates of litter basket service for our District.
